What is Gate Safe?
Gate safe is a charity founded with 3 main aims:
- Stop any further injuries and fatalities caused by automated gates
- Raise awareness amongst the trade and general public
- Train specifiers, installers and Health & Safety advisors on the correct safety protocol for automated gates.
Gates to Grates supports these aims and all our installers are Gate Safe registered.
Gate Safe and Regulations
Regulations
Automated gates, regardless of their design, are now classed as a ‘machine’ (EU Machinery Directive) and as such technical documentation, risk assessments and service sheets should be produced and maintained. As a home owner, Property Management Company, or business owner with automated gates on your property (or one you manage) it is your responsibility to ensure all the relevant documentation is in place ensuring the automated gate is compliant with current standards.
Correctly installed, maintained, and used automated gates pose a manageable risk, however current estimates from the industry suggest that more than 2 out of 3 automated gate systems currently installed in the UK do not comply with the latest legislation and could pose a serious safety risk.
Just as you would have a gas boiler serviced by a Gas Safe Engineer, we advise that all automated gate systems are installed and maintained by a Gate Safe registered installer.
